The Full Focus System

Take the guesswork out of achievement. This three-step formula is the foundation of the Full Focus Planner.

Get clear about where you’re going by planning your goals.

Finally, transform those priorities into bite-sized daily tasks.

Step 1

Get Good at Goal Setting

Turn to the Goal Detail pages at the front of your planner. These pages help you create meaningful goals, which means you’re more likely to achieve them.

To ensure your goal is as powerful and achievable as possible, make sure you use the SMARTER™ framework.

Specific—your goals must identify exactly what you want to accomplish in as much specificity as you can muster.

Measurable—as the old adage says, “You can’t manage what you can’t measure.” If possible, try to quantify the result. You want to know absolutely, positively whether or not you hit the goal.

Actionable—every goal should start with an action verb (e.g., “quit,” “run,” “finish,” “eliminate,” etc.) rather than a to-be verb (e.g., “am,” “be,” “have,” etc.)

Risky—a good goal should stretch you, but not too much. Go right up to the edge of your comfort zone and then step over it. (If you’re not out of your comfort zone, you aren’t thinking big enough.)

Timebound—every goal needs a date associated with it. When do you plan to deliver on that goal? It could be by year-end (December 31) or more near-term (March 31). A goal without a date is just a dream. Make sure that every goal ends with a by-when date.

Exciting—you should be personally excited about achieving the goal. If this isn’t the case, you likely won’t have the motivation to continue pursuing the goal when you encounter unexpected challenges—which you inevitably will.

Relevant—your goal should be relevant—or aligned with—your values, your season in life, and your other goals.

01

Goal Statement

The first thing to ask yourself is: What do I want? Using the SMARTER framework listed above, write your goal so it’s personally compelling to you. Be sure to check if it’s an achievement or a habit goal.

02

Life Domain

There are nine domains to help you think about where you want to grow in different areas of your life. Some goals will fit into multiple domains. If you aren’t sure which areas of your life to set goals in, take the free LifeScore™ Assessment now.

03

Key Motivations

These should be short statements about why you want to achieve a particular goal or what’s at stake if you don’t. Then rank them from 1-5. These will be important to refer to often to keep your motivation and momentum going.

04

Next Steps

List out what you need to do next in order to begin moving toward your goal. These are usually simple actions to kickstart your progress but resist the temptation to add too many.

05

Celebration

Most high-achievers move from one accomplishment to the next without pausing to celebrate. This is critical for success. Decide now how you will celebrate once you achieve your goal and visualize it. It could be something you want to purchase, a trip you want to take, or something new you want to experience.

06

Goal Progress

Tracking your progress—where how far you’ve come or how little you’ve left to go–is an important tactic for maintaining momentum. If this is an achievement goal, track your progress with the progress meter, much like a progress bar on your computer.

07

Streak tracker™

If this is a habit goal, or if you’re using a habit to achieve your goal, track your progress here. Each line is one of the months in the quarter. Each number is a date within that month.

Step 2

Preview the Weekly Preview

Flip to the end of your first week to find the pages labeled Weekly Preview. Your Weekly Preview is one of the most powerful parts of the Full Focus System.

Unless you’re currently at the beginning of your week, you won’t fill this out until a few days from now. Here’s how it works once you’re ready...

01

Weekly Wins

Take a moment to reflect on your biggest wins from the week. It’s easy to focus on what went wrong. This step helps you maintain a positive outlook. It puts you into a better frame of mind and helps cultivate gratitude.

02

Big 3 Analysis

Looking back at your Weekly Big 3, how far did you get? Take time to analyze what worked well, what didn’t, and what you want to continue or change. This way, you avoid repeating the same mistakes week after week.

03

Goal Review & List Sweep

This is an opportunity to tie up loose ends. First, read your goals. Second, look through your planner to find tasks you made notes to delegate or defer. Finally, put those tasks into a task manager for yourself or a delegate.

04

Streaktracker

If you’re working on a habit goal, this is the perfect place to monitor progress. Simply check the box of the respective day once you’ve completed the desired action. At the end of the week, look back to see how you performed.

05

Rejuvenation

As a high-achiever, you’ll never take time to rest unless you plan it in advance. Identify 3 rejuvenating activities you can do in the week again and schedule them before the week begins.

06

Weekly Big 3

Now that you’ve reflected on the week behind prioritize the week ahead. The Weekly Big 3 are the most important things that you need to accomplish in the coming week. This gets you set up for peak productivity.

07

Weekly Overview

In this section, you can list out important meetings, personal events, and deadlines on the respective day of the week so you know exactly what’s going on with a quick glance.

Step 3

Turn to the Daily Pages in Your Full Focus Planner

This is where the rubber meets the road. Flip to the first Daily Page with today’s day of the week. Familiarize yourself with the sections outlined on these pages.

01

Daily Big 3

This is where you write your top 3 most important tasks for the day. When you narrow your focus to these tasks, you’ll knock out what matters most and end every day with a win.

02

Tasks

List other pressing tasks in this section. As you work your way through this list, use the key at the bottom of the page as your own personal status report.

03

Schedule

These days most people use a digital calendar to keep track of their schedule, but we find it helpful to list out important meetings and appointments on the Daily Pages.

04

Ritual Checklist

If you already follow rituals, go ahead and check off any you’ve completed today. If not, you can design these later in the Daily Rituals section at the beginning of your Full Focus Planner.

05

Notes

The notes section allows you to keep everything in one place. No more shuffling through stacks of papers to find your dentist's phone number or last week's meeting notes.

06

Daily Win

End every day feeling accomplished with the Daily Win prompt. No matter how your day went, finish strong by writing one win so you go home feeling satisfied and present with the people that matter most.
